Never say, 'I have nothing to wear!' again. Read on to find out how to streamline your morning, while looking and feeling your best.
Looking and feeling your best as you go about your life helps underpin your confidence. But sometimes deciding what to wear when you are trying to get out the door at a certain time can cause you to feel harassed. How much simpler would your morning be if you didn’t have to think about what to wear?
To make your mornings less stressful, decide what to wear the night before. It’s about forward thinking and getting mentally prepared for the following day. Once you have done that, you can sit back and enjoy your evening, knowing you have a head start on the following day. Here are the steps to help ensure you look and feel your best every day.
1. Declutter
If you have a wardrobe full of clothes you never wear, it can make decision-making more difficult. You are also more likely to wear only a small portion of your wardrobe. Spending an hour or so going through your clothes will benefit you in the longterm.
I have found the best way to tackle this job is to apply the Marie Kondo method, where you take every item of clothing you own and place it on your bed. Once all your clothes are on the bed, pick up each item and decide if you love it. If you do, place it on a hanger (the velvet hangers are the best and are cheap and easy to find) and hang it up, or if it’s underwear, a jumper or a sweater, roll it and place on a shelf that is easy to see and reach. Sell or donate any clothes you no longer want to keep.
2. What are your best colours?
One of the best things I ever did was to get my colours analysed. It really was one of the reasons I no longer declare, 'I have nothing to wear!', because by understanding which colours suit me and which don’t, half the battle is won. Many years later I decided to get my own qualification so that I could use that expertise to help women style themselves in a way that helps boost their mood and confidence - which is what colour has the power to do. I have now been a colour consultant for almost three years and love the positive impact it has on others.
3. Find your style uniform
Having a ‘go-to’ method to help you decide what to wear every day plays an important role in how you look and feel on a daily basis. Once you know what suits you and how to pair outfits together, you can very quickly and easily mix and match. This will give you a varied choice of outfits that you know suit you and you feel your best in.
4. Check the weather and your calendar
When deciding what to wear the night before, check the weather forecast and your calendar. You can then decide on what is suitable and what you will be most comfortable wearing. I also get my handbag equipped with anything I might need when I am out and about, such as a fan if it’s going to be hot, or an umbrella for when rain is forecast. Hats and gloves are also handy to have packed and ready for the following day, if you feel they might be needed.
5. Put your outfit to one side
After you have decided on your outfit, put it to one side, away from the rest of your wardrobe. If possible, hang and/or fold your clothes ready for the morning, including underwear and socks. Then it’s all ready to go and all you need to do is step into it.
6. Think ahead but live in the moment
While it’s important to think ahead when necessary, we don’t want to forget to live our life moment to moment. It is only to make our lives less stressful that we need to look ahead. For the most part, try to live in the moment and to be open-minded and positive. Having a positive attitude is more beautiful than anything you might choose to wear.
It is truly amazing how this small habit can be the solution to never having to declare, 'I have nothing to wear!' ever again! These steps have such a positive impact on your lifestyle and mood.
